What makes me special? MyKingstonKids asks…

As a parent raising young children, it is easy to get caught up in all the details of maintaining a thriving, healthy and safe day-to-day life for them. In this blog article, we ask “What makes me special?” As a question, parents can ask themselves and also ask their children to ask of themselves and vice versa. This exercise can be a way to express feelings to the family that encourages openness and appreciation for your own unique qualities.

The exercise can be done in an innumerable amount of ways that suit your home and habits best; the phrase I Am Special Because… can be written on drawing paper, as magnets on the fridge (plastic we hope to avoid shattering letters!), create a video answering the question, create a drawing, sculpture, or cook your child’s favorite dish to show them that you appreciate their unique tastes in food. This is an opportunity to have someone make you or make yourself your favorite dish, too, you are also special reading this! You may create your answer to the question as a written response, or in your preferred medium of expression. This is an activity meant to enjoy every bit of the process!

Have the youngins think about why they are special, and have them ask themselves questions such as: Who have I helped lately that I felt good about? Where was I patient? What am I good at? What can I teach others if I wanted? What is my special talent? How have I made a difference in someone’s life?

Feel free to comment MORE question ideas like these in the comments below so we can add to the list of MyKingstonKids’ I Am Special Because… writing prompts, curated by you, our MyKingstonKids community!
