THE TIME CAPSULE EVENT
JOIN MYKINGSTONKIDS for a FREE exhibition and celebration. An interactive, family friendly event for the new Wurts Street Bridge!
A Mystery - An Opportunity - A Celebration!
While filming a documentary on the renovation of the century-old Wurts Street Bridge, the construction crew discovered a time capsule. No one knew it was there! The effects of moisture and 100 plus years had taken their toll... just rotted paper remained... the intended message a mystery, lost to time!
An idea emerged - Let's invite the community to create a new Time Capsule - a message in a bottle to the future! It's a snapshot of this diverse, creative community talking to each other at this moment in time.
Over this last year, community organizations and individuals have created a treasure trove of artwork; ceramics, sculptures, photography and interview recordings, answering the question:
"What is your message to the future?" All will be displayed.
At the event, there will also be interactive workshops for the whole family; a chance to record your personal message, write a message in a bottle, contribute to a community mural, make a worry doll, and lots more! All this will be archived on the Documentary website before it goes into the Time Capsule.
Stay tuned for notices about special musical performances, guest speakers and other surprises! Tickets will be available for purchase to take a boat trip to the Kingston Lighthouse on the all-solar Solaris. There will be food from We got the Juice and deserts from Rosie General.
Experts will give brief talks putting the history of the Wurts Street Bridge, the Rondout Creek
and the neighborhoods on either side of the Rondout in historic perspective.
They will be documenting the whole process.
THE TIME CAPSULE DOCUMENTARY is the story of the renovation of the beautiful Wurts Street Bridge in Kingston, NY spanning the Rondout Creek, connecting communities... linking the past to the present, reaching into the future. The bridge had been neglected over many years, and then, as it was about to be discarded, began the journey to its renewal. We document how 21st century technology is giving new life to this 20th century marvel of grace and engineering, For Kingston, along with many small cities in America, this is a story about preserving our cultural inheritance
Come celebrate the renovation of this beautiful, historic bridge and Join the Conversation! A Co-Production of VANDEWEGHE PRODUCTIONS, LLC and NEVILLE BEAN DESIGN

MPAC has spoken and MyKK staff have heard and begun to implement your ideas! Thank you to those who were able to attend last month's meeting. It was a fun, casual gathering where we seemed to all desire for the same offerings for our kids at these awesome events. We gathered to specifically discuss what parents would like to see happening at Kid's Fest this year and shared some wonderful healthy eating and earth conscious points for improvement. So this year, MyKK has specifically invited some of the suggested farm and food providers to participate with us in sharing their healthy eating options for our precious children. We have also begun to strategized on how to improve the waste disposal process at our large events in order to reduce any negative impact on our earth and reinforce the concept of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" to our children. Thank you again, parents! Regarding this month's meeting, I'd like to invite you all again to make suggestions for a place and time where we can conveniently gather with our children. This weekend, April 15th is the 3rd Saturday of the month, although any other day can be an option. As always, feel free to text, email or message me any of your ideas! I hope you've all been enjoying this beautiful Spring season, Andraya Enoch MyKingstonkids Parental Advisory Committee(MPAC) Chair Email: MPAC@mykingstonkids.com Phone: (845) 901-5339

MyKingstonKids has been wanting to share with you all about the historically significant Ann Oliver House! This house is located in New Paltz , NY and was once owned by Ann Oliver, the widow of Richard Oliver who was a black soldier who passed away from malaria while returning home to New Paltz after serving in the Civil War. This home was built in 1885, in part by Jacob Wynkoop, who also was a Civil War veteran and one of New Paltz’s first black landowners. Today, this property has seen some better days as it has not been lived in for a long time and property maintenance has not been kept up on. The village of New Paltz wanted to honor the Oliver family, Jacob Wynkoop, while also being able to serve the community and commemorate its local history in New Paltz.
Esi M. Lewis, the daughter of Dr. Margaret Wade Lewis, has been selected as the new steward of the Oliver house, and she has already begun to make renovations on the property! This house that was once set to be condemned will be preserved, and further transformed into a Black History Museum and Cultural Center. Esi Lewis has a vision to help the community recognize that Black History is America's history as well and it is our History right here in the Hudson Valley. She believes that this home has a story to tell about an era and wants to work further to restore and commemorate its impactful history.

Being a parent often means being crafty on the spot, or in frequent short deadlines based on their children’s extracurricular activities, science projects, holidays, you name it. By now most people have seen the popular term “DIY”, do-it-yourself, and videos and articles instructing you how to do or make virtually anything from fancy nail art to automobile repair.
