Let's dive into youth mentorship. What does it actually do to help our youth?
It helps them find more self-confidence, self esteem, and are able to create big goals for themselves. Additionally, studies show that behavior, attitudes, and relationships improve when a youth has a mentor. Mentors help children grow and close the social and/or economic opportunity.
We really had fantastic show about mentorship this week and hope that you had some takeaways. Please read below and follow a few of the types of mentors that one should be interested in reviewing. Keep in mind mentors are great for kids, parents, individuals and seniors!
It is no secret that Pretend Play forms an essential part of a child’s development. Children learn by observing, imagining and doing. We often think of “play time” as a time reserved for running around the playground and letting off steam between lessons, or for sitting down quietly with a few good toys to tinker with. These forms of play are important in themselves, but they are not the only forms of play. Learning through play is now widely recognised by practitioners as an essential method of learning and development for young children, and a number of theorists and researchers have identified the values of pretend or imaginative play as a vital contributor to the normal development of a child.
Bullying is a very important subject to all of us here at MyKingtsonKids, which is why we chose this topic to cover. As mentioned on MyKingstonKids radio here is some great info that can help you understand and breakdown the facts about bullying. Please let us know your thoughts on our facebook page.
Here are our top six ways to encourage kids to love music:
We have more access to music than ever before. When it comes to listening to music with your kids, I recommend listening to music you love and trying to expand your musical tastes—both for the benefit of your kids and for yourself.
Children are born without a musical bias. If they love a song, it’s because they love a song. Their taste in music is pure and untainted by what other people and the media tell them they should like.
Ultimately, the instrument you and your child choose should depend on a number of factors. Here's a list of questions to consider before bringing home a new music maker:
• Is your child excited about the instrument? Does she like the way it sounds and feels? Some music schools offer a "petting zoo" that introduces kids to multiple instruments.
A pet is a domesticated animal that lives with people, but is not forced to work and is not eaten, in most instances. In most cases, a pet is kept to entertain people or for companionship. Some pets such as dogs and cats are placed in an animal shelter if there is no one willing to take care of it. If no one adopts it or the pet is too old/sick, the pet may be killed.
Many of us have fond memories of growing up with the family cat or dog. As it turns out, 62 percent of households in the United States include companion animals. Dogs are the most popular choice coming in at 39 percent, while cats take a pretty close second at 33 percent. For those of us lucky enough to fall into that 62 percent, childhood included some pretty awesome memories with our first best friend. Playing in the yard, cuddling in pillow forts or dressing our rescue lab like batman to match our Joker costume for Halloween – it’s hard to think of a childhood moment that Brownie didn’t play a featuring roll in.
