1st Annual Sojourner Truth Life Walk
Walk starts from Port Ewen's Jug Tavern to UC Court House/Old Dutch Church | FREE
Black History Month Kingston celebrates the life, journey and spiritual legacy of Esopus native Sojourner Truth through a public walk which will take place on Saturday, February 9th from Port Ewen to Uptown Kingston.
With stops along the way, the walk creates a rare and thoughtful opportunity for the community to engage actively with history and Truth’s lived experience and her writings and teachings, in a way that most traditional Black History curricula cannot provide.
The walk will culminate with a re-enactment of Truth's famous 'Ain't I Woman' speech by Debra Zuill at the Old Dutch Church at approximately 3pm.
All are welcome to join the walk, with a reminder to wear walking shoes and dress warmly!
Free Trolley will be available at Dietz Stadium for pick-up, 170 North Front Street, Kingston, NY 12401
Speech will take place at the OLD DUTCH CHURCH, 272 Wall St, Kingston, NY 12401
Dinner will take place at Texas Roadhouse, 500 Miron Lane, Kingston, NY 12401
